Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 兒童英語教育學系碩士班 === 107 === The single-group study aimed to investigate the effects of local picture books on English vocabulary ability and cultural knowledge of EFL third graders with different English proficiency levels. Twenty-five research participants at a public school in New Taipei City participated in this study forty minutes per week for eight weeks. Data required for this study were collected through self-made pre- and posttests of English vocabulary and cultural knowledge, retention tests, and a feedback questionnaire on local picture book instruction further analyzed and interpreted with descriptive statistics and paired sample t-test. The study results indicate that after eight-week experimental instruction, the participants significantly improved their recognition of word sounds, word forms, word meanings, and spelling ability as well as their cultural knowledge. Furthermore, the retention effectiveness is all well-maintained. Participants also show very positive attitude toward integrating local picture book instructions into their English learning. Based on the findings of this study, several suggestions for implementing local picture book instruction and future studies are provided.
