How the space, objects, words in museum affect the interpretation of images? How the different exhibition concepts lead to the different ways of displaying and seeing to images? The thesis uses three areas of permanent exhibitions in Taipei 228 Memorial Museum, “Suffering”, “The Depths of Memory”, “Introspection and Prospect”, as case studies. The thesis uses “image” instead of “phototgraph”, to emphasize the process when museum reuses these photographs and print them on boards. In order to understand the face and the crisis it shows, after classify the images in these three areas, the author intends to explain the seeing path between the seer and the photographs, and the consideration of choosing images, which cvorrespond to the thought of 228 histories. 228 plays a crucial role in collective trauma in Taiwan; however, the images’ material and other relative research it left are scarce until now. In this situation, the author thinks museum is a possible way to understand 228 images interpretation. We can observe how the curation team think about these material by seeing how the space, objects, words…interact with images, which reveal the invisible part that can’t been seen in a sheet of photo. The dissertation uses the ways of literature review, semi-structured interview, to compare these three area. In the first part, the author adopts visual culture theory as fundamental theory to analyze the visual meaning in displaying; however, visual culture theory is always seen as a theory which contain too much theories like feminism, colonialism, symbolism…and so on. Hence, the author chooses Lacan’s subject theory as main point. As for the other, the author interviews the curator who took part in the renewal of curation in 2007, to understand more details about Taipei 228 Memorial Museum. In conclusion, the author makes a tablet which includes “exhibiton concept”, “images’ theme”, “curation method”, three orientations, and found the change of narratives in these three areas from “human” to “event”, which followed by the change in techniques of displaying. Lastly, the author offers four suggestions: 1. Strengthen the communication between the museum, the curator and the construction contractor. 2. Accelerate the speed of collections’ digitization, and renew the research findings of images to the exhibition. 3. Clarify the importance of images, and make the curation method clearer. 4. Use the special exhibition to build up different narratives of 228, to turn the collective trauma structure of 228. Lai, Ying-Ying 賴瑛瑛 2018 學位論文 ; thesis 149 zh-TW
