A massive number of international students pursuing a graduate degree in EMI program at Taiwanese universities. Previous studies about EMI has been explored, but most of them focused on the undergraduate level. As thesis became a substantial assignment for graduation requirement in graduate level, this study explored the non-native English speaking students’ challenges and strategies toward thesis writing process. Though studies of writing difficulties and strategies by graduate students have been conducted, most of them were conducted at universities which the institutions were in the English speaking countries. For instance, the writing perception of English NNS students who pursued a graduate degree in EMI classroom is still rare. The participants were 152 international graduate students as L2 writers from soft and hard science majors in some Taiwanese universities. The data was collected through a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. Findings show that there are significant differences in thesis writing problems and strategies possessed by graduate students across majors and English proficiency. This study implies there is an urgency for graduate students to obtain more training in writing an academic paper since reporting their scientific research is compulsory for a graduation requirement. It also suggests the necessity of reading habit for graduate students in the process of writing a thesis for this metacognitive activity brings tremendous benefit to them.
