Researchers have noticed that due to the changes of economic environment and industrial structure, the numbers of enterprises that hired atypical employees have increased gradually; the population of atypical employees has raised constantly as well, which brings the transformation of job market structure.This research conducts in-depth interviews with four volunteered atypical employees (two temporary workers and two part-time workers) by narrative and probing approaches. Further to understand the experiences of career development and future career developments of the volunteered atypical employees by analyzing and interpreting the interviews. The research result was divided into three parts: I. The purposes that atypical employees chose to take or not to take atypical jobs: a. It offers diverse work styles that reach each person’s expected lifestyle and career goal. b. Exploring career goals for those who have uncertainties regarding their career development. II. The barriers and strengths that atypical employees would encounter: a. Their occupational safety and working environment tend to be affected by the social environment and job identity. b. They have more freedom and time flexibility for exploring and developing in other fields. III. The influence of career development regarding the experience of atypical employees It offers the opportunity for self-exploration to confirm the life and work styles that they desire whilst considering their future career development. In addition, this study discovers that volunteered atypical employees should have clear career targets; therefore, whilst facing external environmental limits, the internal motivation would drive them to increase the flexibility of job options and move toward the career development with higher diversity. Based on the aforementioned results to understand the career developments of the four volunteered atypical employees; it reveals more of the diverse appearances of atypical jobs that offer a reference for the scholars to conduct further researches in the future.
