Therefore, it is even more important for Hualien County, which bears the brunt of natural disasters in Taiwan, to figure out how to deal with disaster impacts. Hence, the goal of this research is to realize how natural disasters impact Hualien's sightseeing industry and the strategies to cope with it. The research methods are literature review and interviewing 14 experts including that of industry, government and the academic circles. The conclusions of this research are: 1. The first and foremost thing is to improve outside transportation. 2. Avoid constructing public facilities and buildings on dangerous sloping land, low-lying region or fault zone. 3. Strengthening the safety of hardware facilities, environment and persons, and enhancing the staff's educational training of disasters. 4. Experienced cadre and staff is indispensable in workplace. 5. The government should guide the media to report the recovering process of sightseeing spots in disaster area. 6. The government's measures of subsidy should cooperate with promotion period and taking corresponding actions. Suggestions of this research are: 1. The government should strictly enforce the law towards forbidden zone. 2. Detecting the safety of buildings' structure in disaster area as soon as possible. 3. Integrating tourism with shelters in the planning of a park. 4. Increasing the facilities of turn-out lane and temporary parking in the roads that rocks easily fall. 5. Subsidizing traffic construction or activities helpful for advertising local characteristics. Key words : Tourism industry, disaster management strategies, disaster shock
