In this thesis, semiconductor saturable absorber mirrors (SESAMs) are used as the saturated absorber of mode-locked fiber lasers, and narrow-band FBGs are used to form passive mode-locked fiber lasers with linear cavity. In order to create a stable mode-locked fiber system with high efficiency, high energy and large operating region, we design and analyze the passive mode-locked fiber laser systems with different laser parameters. We have successfully demonstrated narrow-linewidth mode-locked lasers with nJ class of pulse energy and operating wavelength of near 2 μm.
