The current 4G network has gradually failed to meet the needs of human beings. Therefore, the fifth generation mobile communication has been developed. .It has greatly improved in the area of the transmission rate, spectral efficiency, device support, and transmission delay issues.The Universal Filtered Multi-Carrier(UFMC) system is one of the 5G candidate system. This system includes the advantages of the OFDM system and also possesses benefits of the other 5G candidate system, the FBMC system. But the high peak-to-average power ratio is still one of the disadvantages of UFMC system like the OFDM system. This thesis mainly studies the use of generalized discrete Fourier transform(GDFT) to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio of UFMC system without affecting the bit error rate. According to the different subcarrier numbers, modulation methods, and group subcarrier numbers, the best parameter of GDFT of reducing the peak-to average power ratio of the UFMC system was found.
