Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南藝術大學 === 應用藝術研究所 === 107 === In Maslow's hierarchy of needs, self-actualization is the highest level of human motivation, or the ultimate goal for human life. As I have slowly entered the empty-nest period, it is time for me to self-remodel. Using patchwork as a method of self-remodeling, my creations face the stage of reconstructing, viewing self-actualization as the goal of life. Therefore, life and creation intertwines. Patchworks originally existed for the user and was passed down to the present through the inheritance of the past, and then became pieces of “artwork” in exhibitions. Because of the above-mentioned reason, there are more ways to spectate patchworks. Apart from user’s touch sensation, visual perception and emotional connection have become an important material for patchwork creation. This article will discuss the possibility of combining commercial printed cotton cloth, homemade cotton cloth and composite medium all together in one patchwork creation. We will also discuss how the combination of the cloth weaving technique and the traditional quilting techniques will push patchwork creation to an advanced level. As for visual space of artwork, we focus on searching the connection between two-dimensional and three-dimensional space . In the perform of patchwork, this article will discuss the process of patchwork evolution, explaining how the original patchwork form changed from a large, complete piece to a combination of scattered pieces, and then became a whole piece again; just like a person who went on an adventure and finally found oneself again during the journey. Intertwine, which means the formation of latitude and longitude or interweaving of warps and cloth, can also represents the life I live everyday, a role as a mother and a patchwork creator. Through patchwork creation and self-remodeling, I found the new “me”.
