In Japanese colonial period, Taiwanese Opera Troupes in Nantou County flourished, numerous commercial theaters and indoor Taiwanese Opera were prosperous, however, they were replaced by movies and television shows in the 1960s, then withdrawn from indoor theaters, many troupes disbanded until 1973. Nowadays, numerous Taiwanese Opera Troupes in Nantou County such as Xiao-mei-yun Troupe, Xiao-hui-long Troupe, Chun-ming Troupe, Ming-chu Girl’s Troupe, Lian-xing Troupe and Li-jing-fang Troupe. All of them were established in 1973 and performed as major. For earning more revenue, most of troupes in county performed Taiwanese Opera and Ding-Tao, they chose to locate in the Caotun Township as well, because of the convenient transportation and performing opportunities. In the circumstances, co-opetition relationship, the belief of god and the habit of joint-sacrifice was developed. With the increase of troupes, some of them developed their characteristics. After 2000, part of troupes started to apply official subvention for creating exquisite Taiwanese Opera. The family-run troupes were taken over by the next generation, while the next generation join it. The troupes recruited the child performers by a contract in the past years but recruiting approach changed by social transformation, they recruit members from national or Taiwanese Opera training classes. This dissertation divides into seven chapters, the first chapter clarifies the motivation of this research and methodology; the second chapter mainly discuss the history of troupes in Nantou County; the third chapter records the development of six existing Taiwanese Opera Troupes; the fourth chapter explains the structure of troupes, recruiting approach and phenomena of Industry cluster; the fifth chapter introduces the drama style of troupes; the sixth chapter presents Ding-Tao and the seventh chapter concludes the finding of this dissertation.
