This research is arranged chronologically, and it attempts to analyze the various external appearances of binding self with plastic wrap. It also manifests the psychological state and creative motive that prompted the author to carry out the series of performances. The thesis starts from "self" and further explores the various "Others" surrounding "self" in the works. From the perspectives of performance art, art therapy, and so on, this thesis can be viewed as a response to the author's life history interwoven with performance art as well as deep emotions. The first chapter of this thesis briefly describes the author’s course of study and the interpersonal dilemma of studying abroad. The author's study experience as a major turning point in life unravels the important motives and illumination of the Cocoon series. The second chapter sorts out the relevant theories, bringing up that the performance art has the “postures”, which can affect individuals and social momentum. The third chapter is the main focus. It dives into the former works before the series of Cocoon and how the author is inspired by interactive wearable works. The works show the transformation of the “Others” from the cultural side to the side of interpersonal relationship and even the side of social power from a small scope of self-shooting to the interaction in public space. The second half of the third chapter examines the state of being abused in the author’s works. It also delineates the author’s later turn in the relationship healing in creation and the sublimation in art from the perspective of art therapy. In the end, the ending of the series of Cocoon moves to the themes of family and mother, returns to the author’s starting point, and reviews the primary self-other relationship: the Mother-Child relationship.
