With the evolution of society, people live in a fast-paced life. Sleep problems become serious and magnificent. Although the public has increased awareness for the sleep health in recent years, insomnia is still accountable for a considerably serious modern plague. Majority of related research in Taiwan is mainly to verify the ergonomic performance of bedding or sleep quality. There is only few studies that discuss about behavior, culture and objects which related to sleep. Moreover, according to previous research, cognitive behavioral therapy for sleep disorder performance is better than medical therapy. Accordingly, sleep-related products and services are regarded as a new opportunity for biomedical market due to the increasing value. This research is based on qualitative research approaches of folk tools. Photo record are conducted to define the features and characteristics of sleep-aid object. Also, questionnaire survey is conducted to understand user behavior and sleep quality. The main goal of this research is to explore opportunities for sleep-aid object development and design principles. In summary, sleep-aid objects can be generalized in five functions: (1) Relax/Ease tension/Change mood (2) Isolating external stimulation (3) Building/improving suitable sleep environment (4) Adjust routines/introduce users with better approach to fall asleep and get up (5) Help users to improve sleep poses/bedding. For the result of user investigation, Japanese college student pursuit sleep-aid objects which improve suitable sleep environment. They mainly suffer from difficulties with sleep initiation and nonrestorative sleep problems. Taiwanese prefer body relaxation products and mainly suffer from nonrestorative sleep. Furthermore, there are many gaps are found between supply and demand of sleep-aid objects, as well as sleep hygiene, real user situation and sleep quality. However, there is no association between Use of sleep-aid objects, Interference factors, Habits in bed, Habits before sleep and insomnia disorder. As a result, the principle of sleep-aid object development should be general and adapted to local conditions. Tsai-yun Lo 羅彩雲 2019 學位論文 ; thesis 143 zh-TW
