The development of romantic relationship is a back and forth process. People estimated the possibility of having romantic relationship with the persons they crushed on by his or her responses (DeVito, 1994; Guerrero & Chavez, 2005; Kuo & Wei, 2012). There were gender differences in perceiving courtship behaviors in this process. Abbey (1982) indicated that males tended to interpret females’ responses with sexual meaning, and expected to have intimate contacts earlier than females in courtship stage (Ortiz-Torres, Williams & Ehrhardt, 2003；Rosenthal et al. 1998；Seal & Ehrhardt, 2003). These behaviors might bring discomfort and therefore might be regarded as sexual harassment. Therefore, there had different sexual harassment feelings in different relationships and courtship behaviors, and pushed the relationships into different directions.
Participants were invited to respond on Google internet questionnaire platform with Courtship Behavior Feelings Scale and Future Development of Relationships Scale. A total of 173 heterosexual female participants were recruited from Facebook and PTT by convenience and snowball sampling, with a mean age of 24.6. They were randomly assigned to one of two versions: friends or favorites. After participants reported how much they felt being sexual harassed by different courtship behaviors (conservative & adventurous), they then rated the possibilities of future development of relationships, such as getting into a romantic relationship, or drifting apart from each other.
Two-way mixed design ANCOVA, multiple hierarchical regression analysis, and Sobel’s t test were conducted, showing the results:（1）Stronger sexual harassment feelings would be triggered by friends than favorites;（2）Stronger sexual harassment feelings would be triggered by adventurous courtship behaviors than conservative courtship behaviors;（3）female would more likely to develop romantic relationship with favorites than friends;（4）sexual harassment feelings from adventurous courtship behaviors negatively predicted future relationship;（5）sexual harassment feelings one experienced was negatively related to the possibility of developing romantic relationship;（6）sexual harassment feelings partially mediated between types of relationship and future development.
