There are various correctional techniques to help inmates in correctional institutions. It is generally believed that inmates are more likely to receive spiritual support and psychological comfort through religious belief, which, in turn, enlightens them on the right path in life, satisfies their minds and souls, keeps their minds in peace and balance, and helps them recognize the value and meaning of life. The nine study subjects are inmates in the Merit Times (renjian fubao) class, released prisoners, disciplinarians and instructors at Taoyuan Women's Prison. The study uses the qualitative research method and the semi-structured interview and observational method are the main approaches. Relevant data are collected, sorted, and analyzed, and grounded theory is applied in this study. After the data collected and analyzed, the result shows that the benefits gained by the inmates through the religious discipline program could be divided into early-imprisonment short-term, in-prison mid-term, and after-imprisonment long-term treatment effectiveness. 1.The cognitive effectiveness in the execution of early-imprisonment short-term correction strategy: a) a step-by-step, intensive, and adaptive correctional treatment enhances learning effectiveness; b) the emotional stability of the early- imprisonment inmates contributes to their adaptation to in-prison lives. 2.The psychological effectiveness caused by the in-prison mid-term correctional treatment process: a) strengthening emotional management skills to build a sound mind; b) developing a positive attitude, boosting confidence, and correcting wrong values. 3.The rehabilitative effectiveness of after-imprisonment long-term correctional practice: a) correction of the wrong behavioral cognition in order to return to the society; b) developing a “super-ego” self-reflection capability to reduce the recidivism rates. Lastly, from the study result and the discerning of the advantages and disadvantages of the correctional execution and requirement, the suggestions below are offered to correctional institutions and the future researchers: 1.Suggestions to correctional institutions: a) various religious discipline programs can be set up to meet the needs of the inmates and be spread to the prisons nationwide; b) employ long-term teachers with religious education background and open relevant courses and activities for counselors who afterwards are able to design appropriate courses without wasting time and efforts. 2.Suggestions to the future researchers: a) doing research on various types of inmates and incorporating diverse religious teaching materials into courses to enhance correctional effectiveness; b) the future researchers are anticipated to use different research methods to examine the issue discussed in the study; c) it’s hard to observe the effectiveness of an inmate re-entering into society in a short-term study; therefore, the future researchers are anticipated to prolong the schedule to improve the reliability of the study.
