Summary: | The aim with this study was to describe how the board members of athletic clubs view and value their youth program. A qualitative approach was used in form of interviews. The interviews were made face to face as well as being taped, this to facilitate the analysis. When the board members viewed their youth program to be in alignment with the overall club philosophy there was a discrepancy between their views and the “de facto” conditions of the youth program. It will also show that the board members viewed it as difficult to conduct broad-spectrum program for the youths. These difficulties were to a great extent due to external factors. When these difficulties became detrimental for the development of the clubs activities, then an alternative to the present day competition and rules system should be developed. Furthermore, there is a need for internal education in clubs to highten consciences dealing with how to value and run activities
