More than 20 existing database management systems have been selected as possible candidates. Qualitative analysis reduced that number to 4 candidates DBMSs (PostgreSQL, SQLite, Firebird and MySQL). Quantitative analysis has been used to test the performance of these 4 DBMSs while performing the most common structured query language (SQL) data manipulation statements (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE and SELECT). Referential integrity and easy to install were also evaluated for these 4 DBMSs. As results, Firebird is the most suitable DBMS which best addressed all desired requirements.
