Description
Summary:Women who suffer from domestic violence are a frequent phenomena. According to the social services, these women have the right to help and support from the social welfare board, also called “socialnämnden”. Previous research has shown that social workers must adapt their work according to the clients needs. In this study we ask ourselves: “how does these women describe the social services function in the process of leaving domestic abuse?” And also, “how would these women describe their experience with the social services?” The empirical material of this study has been gathered through 5 qualitative interviews with women who has been in a domestic abuse, and the most vital finding of this study is found to be the lack of treatment, the importance of understanding from fellow men and finally, the importance and the lack of intercommunication between different authorities and units within the social services. We argue that work by the social services should pervade both empowerment and a salutogenic mind, and adapt to each individual who seeks help. The discussion about this phenomena should continue in order to advance further methods and the general knowledge in society.
