Description
Summary:This study aims to seek knowledge of the salutogenic model within geriatric care. This is done by problematizing the female geriatric care personnel’s everyday life and conditions. The study’s comparative empirical focus includes interviews with ten women that work within geriatric care, at two different workplaces. The method used is thus qualitative. The theoretical framework that has been applied on the study’s empirical material concerns structural difficulties for female geriatric care personnel that are working salutogenically in practice. The conclusion offers a discussion of what we have established through the examination of what enables the realisation of the salutogenic model within geriatric care. The central findings in the study are that flexibility, scope for action and continuity works as fundamental conditions for geriatric care personnel. Moreover, an interesting aspect that is discussed is how the employees adjust to the fact that it is favorable, for both the elderly and the personnel, to only do the most essential tasks. Furthermore, the strengths and weaknesses of the study are discussed, as well as motivation for further research within the field.
