Description
Summary:This paper is on propaganda in popular culture, with a main focus on therelations between propaganda and ethnocentrism. The object of this paper hasbeen the movie Godzilla (2014) on which I conducted a qualitative discourseanalysis to extract a deeper meaning of the movie. The theories that I've usedin this paper are: postcolonialism, orientalism, ethnocentrism and Us-and-Them. By using these theories in combination with my qualitative discourseanalysis I've been able to establish a clear pattern of the relationship betweenpropaganda in film and ethnocentrism. The way the film choses to portray itsdifferent elements defines they way the elements are interpeted by theviewer, which causes the viewer to feel a strengthened ethnocentrism. Thispaper also offers a discussion on the consequences of that relationship.
