| Summary: | This study focuses on how gender is discursively constructed by the stereotypical metal performer in the metal scene, since these types of performances has been largely un-problematized in previous metal scholarship. Through discourse analysis of music videos and live performances of three metal artists this study presents the doing of gender in the metal scene in a way which portrays every act, body feature, movement, spatial use and sexual display, as equal parts of a gender performance. The results present how gendered identities and gendered bodies are discursively created in the performance of metal music. |
