Summary: | The propagation of electromagnetic waves through media with dispersive dielectric permittivity. It is shown that under resonant conditions the energy velocity is always subluminal. The energy velocity is different from the group velocity and the delay velocity. The momentum conservation equation with the Lorentz force is derived from macroscopic and microscopic analysis. The relations of the forces on the dielectric with momentum and pseudomomentum of the electromagnetic field are clarified. |
