Description
Summary:Currently commercial artists spend a considerable amount of their time copying previous designs in order to make small changes, rather than devoting their time to creative work. The use of a compter in this environment could be of considerable benefit to the artist. This computer system must however be flexible enough to allow the artist to use his creative talents to the full; it must also be easy to use so that the artist will prefer the computer assisted aproach to the manual one. It is to the problems involved in implementing such a system for wallcovering designers that this thesis is addressed. This thesis considers both the features and facilities required by an artist, and the way that they can be implemented. The implementation of a drawing system called Buds is considered in detail. This system written for an ICL Perq with a binary display. In particular the is discussion concerning making the drawing system 'friendly' to the artist, and methods of implementation of the system to provide the quick response needed in any interactive environment. In addition the extension of Buds to tonal and colour pictures is discussed, including algorithms for rotating and enlarging areas of a tonal picture.
