Description
Summary:We investigated whether the hippocampus plays an important role in conditional learning in rats. The effect of excitotoxic lesions of the hippocampus on the performance of non-spatial conditional discrimination tasks was tested. Hippocampal lesions impaired performance when lesions were made after learning or when goal boxes were used as stimuli. However, lesioned rats performed normally under other conditions, suggesting that the hippocampus is not essential to learn conditional discrimination tasks.
