Summary:The Great Schism of the 14th and 15th centuries shook the stability and unity of the church. It also inspired the call for reform of its clergy. Throughout the fifteenth century calls for reform were heard but went largely unheeded. But by the end of the fifteenth century the trumpet of reform was picked up by a group of French humanist theologians and clergy who sought to advance the idea of reform of the clergy.
