Summary: | This thesis investigates NiFe thin films grown by DC magnetron co-sputtering, with particular emphasis on their suitability as shielding in magnetic recording read heads. Initially, the magnetic, structural and crystallographic properties of NiFe films of varying compositions were investigated, as well as properties of bilayered and multilayered films. Film thickness was kept below a thickness of = 200 nm, as investigation of NiFe film thickness established that at this point samples would appear isotropic due to out of plane anisotropy. |
