Some complexes of transition metals with substituted anilines

The preparation and properties of some nickel(II) and cobalt(II) complexes with substituted anilines are described. Analytical, magnetic and spectral data are used to elucidate the structures of the complexes. The role of polyatomic anions in the complexes has been determined from their infrared spe...

Analytical, magnetic and spectral data are used to elucidate the structures of the complexes. The role of polyatomic anions in the complexes has been determined from their infrared spectra. Tetrafluoroborate ion is reluctant to coordinate in this system and only complexes of the type [Ni (aniline)6] (BF4)2 are obtained. In contrast, coordination of perchlorate ion in complexes of the type trans-[Ni (aniline)4(ClO4)2] is found and a number of spectral parameters for the complexes are given. Complexes of nickel cyanate, thiocyanate and selenocyanate are described and it is shown that the type of complex obtained with these salts is strongly dependent on the position of the substituent in the aniline ligand. The thermogravimetric behaviour of some of the complexes has been investigated. Electronic and infrared spectral measurements have been carried out on a number of previously reported nickel and cobalt halide complexes. The far infrared spectra (400-30 om-1) of the complexes prepared here are given and the results are discussed in terms of Group Theory.540University of Surreyhttps://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.730981http://epubs.surrey.ac.uk/842900/Electronic Thesis or Dissertation
