Summary:Thesis (M.A.)--Boston University === This study was chosen because it was felt that the count schools in North Carolina are still in great need of more and better music education. It was found that various other states were confronted with the same problem of rural school music, also. This study was a study of music teaching in 101 counties of North Carolina is predominantly rural, over half the schools in the state are rural towns or communities. Under the recent consolidation program, many of these schools have been consolidated are are centrally located. In compiling reading materials related to the subject of the study that would help to solve the rural school music problem in the state of North Carolina, it was found that a considerable number of studies, based on the same type of research, had been made in other states. Many magasines articles and books dealing with the improvement of music education in rural schools were found. [TRUNCATED]
