The study used three methods of gathering data: a survey questionnaire, participant-observation, and one-on-one interviews. The study also reviews other case studies that describe life and educational experiences as well as the language and cultural connections of Generation 1.5 students. An analysis of lexical, structural and interactional differences of the spoken and written modes of the English language is also included. The study's findings indicate that learning the vocabulary of the written language was a key factor in being a member of the academic community. 2006-01-01T08:00:00Z text application/pdf https://scholarworks.lib.csusb.edu/etd-project/3100 https://scholarworks.lib.csusb.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=4173&context=etd-project Theses Digitization Project CSUSB ScholarWorks English language Study and teaching Foreign speakers Case studies English language Rhetoric Study and teaching Foreign speakers English language Social aspects Case studies English language Psychological aspects Case studies Immigrants Education (Higher) United States Case studies English language Psychological aspects English language Rhetoric Study and teaching Foreign speakers English language Social aspects English language Study and teaching Foreign speakers Immigrants Education (Higher) Students.
