| Summary: | Based on a questionnaire survey, this master's thesis focuses on studying the transformation of Opava City after the breakdown of communist system in terms of the regeneration of civil society. Through comparison of the demographic, economic, political and associational life attributes of the present society with the period of the First Republic, the thesis attempts to describe how public life intervenes to the personal life of an individual, to what degree the individual identifies with it, whether it is worthy being a member of an association or club. Finally, it studies whether the associational life follows the tradition of the First Republic.
