The first section summarizes the current approach of the international community to the question of climate changes caused by human activity, the beginnings and evolution of the theory of sustainable development and international negotiations leading to the carbon dioxide emission limits. It analyzes the position of the most important actor on the field of global greenhouse gas reduction, the European Union. As a member, the ČR is directly influenced by legislation and the commitments which have been taken at the European level. The next section identifies the situation in the Czech Republic: the amount and the main sources of emissions and set them to the European and World context. This section implies the resulting consequences for the Czech Republic. It analyzes the basic tools used in ČR for the carbon dioxide emissions reducing.
