| Summary: | The aim of the thesis is to outline the social reality and the everyday life of Prague working class between the two world wars. Prague, which was at that time changing into a modern city with growing population, was also the city with the largest number of workers in Czechoslovakia. We have especially focused on working-class families, health and sexual issues, living conditions, cultural life, political attitudes and education. In the thesis, archive sources of the period have been used, namely those of organizations dealing with workers or workers' own organizations like political parties, labour unions or interest groups. Another source of data is a qualitative sociological research of witnesses. The analysis of statistical data, periodicals of that time and other literature have also been employed. We have attempted to show the Prague working class with its rich diversity, as a very heterogenous group merging with other social classes. Apart from social differences, we have emphasized the impact of gender and generation on the everyday life of Prague working class.
