Summary:This master's thesis deals with Internet information behavior of students of institutions of higher education in the Abu Dhabi emirate in the United Arab Emirates. It stems from fundamental research conducted in the Spring semester of 2009. The data analyzed in this thesis were collected by way of questionnaires at the institutions of higher education in Abu Dhabi. The thesis starts with a description of the state of the informaiton society in the UAE with a focus on the issue of censorship on the Internet. Next it presents the basic demographic characteristics of the respondents and their profile as Internet users. It further analyzes socializing over the Internet, perception of censorship, perception of the Internet in the Emirati/Arab context and information seeking behavior of the students. It also examines these data sets from a perspective of gender, age, and subjectively perceived social status.
