| Summary: | English resume Activities of notarial office and prevention of legal disputes In civil law a notary plays a very important role in the society. He has extensive powers in executing legal documents and legal agreements, legalizing documents, authenticating copies and also plays a significant role during the inheritance procedure. The purpose of my thesis is to analyse what falls within the competence of the notary and explore the relevance of his work on prevention of legal disputes. The thesis is systematically structured into six chapters, each of them presenting different aspects of the notarial job. First chapter is introductory. Chapter Two gives an outline of the development of the legal status of the notaries begining in the ancient Rome until the legal regulation these days. Third and fourth chapters represent the main part of the thesis. Chapter Three is subdivided into three parts. Part One explores the legal status and the characteristic of a notary in Czech law, whereas the next part attempts to describe the activity of a notary concerning its influence on preventing disputies. The last part illustrates how notaries are connected with the courts. The fourth chapter endeavours to examine selected activities more elaborately.
