This diploma thesis deals with comparing the election and the electoral systems of proportional representation, which is demonstrated by the Czech Republic, and the majority system, which is demonstrated by the United Kingdom. The aim of this work is to compare election and electoral systems in both countries and to analyze the results of the parliamentary elections 2010. The text is structured into six main chapters, which are divided into many sub- sections. The first chapter describes the differences in suffrage in parliamentary democracy. It also compares the two countries in regards to the gradual extension of suffrage caused by an increasing population range. The second chapter compares the electoral system of proportional representation with majority electoral system. The third chapter deals with the conditions for participation in elections. In addition, this chapter explains the rules of elections and announcement.
