Description
Summary:Tumor necrosis factor is one of the most important pro-inflammatory cytokines of the innate immune system. We tested several species of ticks for anti-tumour necrosis factor- activity in this study. The specific activity was proved for Ixodes ricinus saliva and several other species. We also tested dynamics of this specific activity in Ixodes ricinus saliva. The highest effect of saliva appears at the end of feeding period. Although we detected an inhibitory effect, none TNF-binding molecule has been identified so far. Our results excluded enzymatic aktivity cleaving TNF molecule.
