| Summary: | Este trabalho pretende analisar três obras doarquitecto brasileiro Lucio Costa (1902-1998)sintetizando os aspectos principais de sua trajetóriaatravés de especulações no âmbito dacrítica arquitectónica em busca da essência desua atitude projectual e das inquietações que aorientaram. É fundamentalmente com base nosedifícios e no trabalho prático do arquitecto quese desenvolve a argumentação da dissertação.O presente estudo ambiciona mostrar que, apesarde algumas mudanças ao longo da sua carreira,naturais a todos os arquitectos, são clarosos critérios de organização espacial e formal,aliados à capacidade de concretizar de formaeficaz e rigorosa na construção, que fizeramde Lucio Costa um arquitecto de referência.A dissertação enquanto uma aproximação pessoalpretende averiguar que o bom projecto dearquitectura é aquele que reduz a arbitrariedade,enquanto imposição de uma vontade individual,a favor da resposta a demandas colectivas enuma relação harmoniosa com o contexto; queo bom arquitecto não é aquele que impõe a sualógica num determinado sítio, mas aquele capazde lidar com os diversos constrangimentosdeste meio, introduzindo qualidade ao edifícioque se está a projectar. A partir deste ponto devista, buscou-se na obra de Costa a racionalidadee o percurso que desencadearam uma trajectóriade erudição arquitectónica e de compromissocom a sociedade para a qual projectou.O trabalho concretiza-se a partir da investigaçãodo método, dos caminhos de projectoe resultados ao longo da vida profissional deCosta, compreendendo o complexo processo decriação, desobscurecendo as referências e traçandoparalelos quando estes forem possíveis. === The purpose of this study is to analyze threeconstruction sites by the Brazilian architect LucioCosta (1902-1998) summarizing the mainaspects of his trajectory through the speculationsin the scope of critical architecture while seekingthe essence of his projectual attitude and the restlessnesswhich guided him. It is fundamentallybased on the buildings and the practical work ofthe architect which have been elaborated in thedissertation defense. This study seeks to showthat, in spite of some changes which occurredduring the course of his career, natural amongall architects, the spatial and formal organizationare clear and linked to the ability to effectivelyimplement these aspects in the building, whichLucio Costa accomplished as a great architect.The dissertation, while it is a personal approachthat intends to confirm that a good architecturaldesign is one that is pinpointed on arbitrarinessand in the meantime, the impositionof an individual desire, favoring the response ofcollective demands and a harmonious relationshipto the context; the good architect does notimpose his/her own logic on any given site, butis capable of leading with diverse constraints onthis media, introducing quality to the buildingwhich is being designed. Based on this point ofview, rationality and the course which have beentriggered on a trajectory of architectural eruditionand a commitment to the society which it wasdesigned for have been sought in Costa's works.The study has been based on an investigativemethod, design paths, and the results from the lifelongprofessional life of Costa in understandingthe complex process of creation, unveiling the referencesand tracing parallels whenever possible
