 Anstatt zu fragen, was Kultur ist, rückt das Buch die Frage nach der Funktionalität von Kultur in den Mittelpunkt. Die Theorie der Weltgesellschaft (Luhmann) als Ausgangspunkt macht einen Perspektivenwechsel im Umgang mit Fragen der Fremdheit in der globalen Welt notwendig und erweist sich als gewinnbringend für die Bearbeitung pädagogischer Herausforderungen. Neben metatheoretischen Überlegungen wird das Thema der Inter-Kultur im Alltagsdiskurs von Studierenden erforscht.
