Jahrhunderts Rhetorik als vornehmste Methode der Tugendförderung, Wahrheitssuche und Gotteserkenntnis betrachteten, sahen gerade in gegenseitigen persönliche Herabsetzungen das Mittel zur Durchsetzung ihrer Positionen.
