Summary:This paper aims to reflect on the critical discourse of sociological theories that focus on the relation between society and school and its determinations and implications in educational policies of the Portuguese educational system of the XXth and XXIst century. The post-modern context with a large experience of different kinds of pluralisms is considered as a fertile field for this reflection that has in the emergency of a new school paradigm its main axe of analysis. This school should respond to different publics in a way that does not homogenize student’s trajectories but differentiates them and redefines teacher’s roles in order to address the challenges placed by contemporary societies.This text still approach the perceptions of a group of kindergarten teachers, who tell us of the dilemmas and challenges they face in their daily lives. Generally speaking, recognize schools as multicultural realities that require a differentiated pedagogy.
