Summary:In this research we analyze the reactions of 26 teacher candidates to the readings assigned for their curriculum course at university to become French as a second language teachers. After a description of the programme and context, we examine the participants’ email productions over six months in their situational context and Laing et al’s perspective taking model. The results of this study show that only one in five future teachers communicated at the level of complexity of meta-meta-perspective taking according to Laing et al. We give examples and discuss the results in the light of the personalities involved and by looking at culture and the possible impact of communicating in L2
