Photius’ interest in the turmoil in II B.C. Sicily, which probably reflects ninth-century anxiety over the Arab invasion of Sicily, led him to shape a coherent monograph, different from Diodorus’ conglomerate and from the Constantinian <em>Excerpta</em>.
