Description
Summary:This study aimed at investigating the teaching obstacles of English in the first three elementary classes (grades 1-3) as perceived by EFL teachers in Irbid city/ Jordan. For the purpose of the study, 90 EFL teachers were chosen randomly and a questionnaire of 42 items distributed over listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills was developed, The results of the study revealed some obstacles facing EFL pupils (grades 1-3) in learning English. The results also revealed that the obstacles are not only related to the teachers of English, pupils and curriculum, bun also are related to some other factors. Furthermore, the results revealed that EFL (grades 1-3) face more problems in reading and listening than in speaking and writing, In general, the Means of all the obstacles were either moderate or high ones. The results did not reveal significant differences regarding such variables as gender, experience or qualifications of EFL teachers. Based on the results, the researchers recommended that EFL teachers have to focus more on the practical side of the teaching material. The study also recommended more attention to be given to EFL teachers' preparation programs of the first three elementary classes.
