Tropical cyclones near landfall can induce their own intensification through feedbacks on radiative forcing

Air subsidence ahead of tropical cyclones can bring on rapid intensification and consequent clear skies that warm the water column in shallow shelf waters and under limited cloud cover, according to experiments with a coupled ocean-atmosphere model.
