Summary:This research literature review article examines the factors that affect academic success or failure of Hmong-American K-12 students to provide some insights into the academic challenges and complexity they still face today in the American educational system. Existing studies indicate that many Hmong-American students are academically underprepared for postsecondary studies since they are lagging in the academic skills needed for success. Academic and cultural background issues are discussed to help differentiate successful students from less successful students.
