Online Access:http://Infantileautismispervasivedevelopmentaldisorderwithabnormalordamagedpsychicaldevelopmentmanifestedafterthesecondorthirdyearoflife,withcharacteristicsintheshiftofpathologicalfunctioninginthesphereofsocialinteractions,incommunicationswiththeenvironment,andwithrepetitivebehavior.TheaimofthisarticleistoshowapartofdemographicandepidemiologicalcharacteristicsofthepopulationwithautismregisteredintheRepublicofMacedonia.Thisresearchisaretrospectivestudy,followedontheterritoryoftheRepublicofMacedonia,whichcovered50peoplewithautism.AllexaminedpeoplehaveaverifieddiagnosisaccordingtoICD-10classificationofdiseasesandDSM-IVcriteriamadeinthespecialeducationalandmedicalinstitutionsinourcountry.FromtheanalysisofexaminedautisticpeopleinthesampleithasconfirmedthattheprevalenceofautisminRMis0.25peopleupto10.000inhabitants.Themalegenderis2.5timesmorefrequentthanthefemalegender.Themeanageofpatientsis11years.Thesocio-economicconditiondoesnottakepartinthegenesisofautism.Theseasonofbirthisnotconnectedwiththeappearanceofthedisturbance.Dataformothersdiseaseduringthepregnancy(p=0.04),aswellasthepathologicalcourseofthepregnancy(p=0.02)isariskfactorforappearanceofthesyndrome.Thepathologicaldeliveryandthecomplicationsintheperinatalperiodarenottheriskfactorsinthisstudy(p>0.05).Thedurationofnursingandthepreliminaryrejectionofmother’smilkaresignificantlyassociatedwiththeappearanceofautism(p<0.01).Theresultsfromthisstudymaybeusefulasagoodbaseforfurtherepidemiologicalresearching,revealingnewriskfactorsinthegenesisofautism,andforplanningthepreventionofthisseveresyndrome.
