Experiments directed towards the total synthesis of chlorothricolide
The attempted synthesis of a differentially protected "top half", i, of chlorothricolide is described. The key step necessary for this synthesis was the spirocyclization of the anhydride ii, to prepare the protected tetronic acid iii.
