pumping motors at night. One is the traditional back-to-back
method using the first machine and the sixth machine to start
the others, the other is using two static frequency converters
( SFCs ) to start the motors. While using SFCs to start motors,
the fluorescent lamps had flickers in the control room and the
fuses to protect against overload of the fluorescent lamps were
blown. In addition, the no-fuse-breakers were tripped and the
uninterruptable power supplies ( UPSs ) were put out of order.
This reserach constructs an electrical network model of the
power plant to simulate and analyze the characteristics of SFC
and related questions when SFC is used to start motors. Results
are compared to actual measurement to verify the model for
further studies.
