An effective slicing algorithm is needed to each Rapid Prototyping machines. This thesis describes how the slicing algorithm works. It first scans the model data of the 3D CAD model, and then detects the support features according to the model data. After generating all the data of the 3D CAD model by the slicing procedure, the Rapid Prototyping system can build the model quickly and easily. For different Rapid Prototyping machines, each kind of them has their own method of CAD model prototyping. So the slicing logic and algorithm are also different and have their own characteristic that they can work with their own machines. Rapid Prototyping machine can’t work correctly without the supply of its own slicing algorithm. The slicing algorithm controls the accuracy and the speed of the CAD model building ( the time of the CAD model production ) of the whole production process.
