The mothod of the process research was applied to this study The researcher was both the play therapist and researcher .The hearily emotional handicap child (Chun Chun) who was chosen from a primary school in Changhua participated in the study. The play therapy was arranged on a twice per-week basis, each session lasted for 30-35 minutes totaling in 16 sessions.The play therapy process were videotaped and transcribed to analyze the change process of the hearily emotional handicap child in terms of her verbal behaviors, nonverbal expression, repeat topics, toy selection and interactions with researcher during the play therapy. After the sessions, the researcher interviewed Chun Chun’s teacher , parents,doctor and classmate to evaluate the effectiveness of the play therapy. The results are as follow: 1. Chun Chun’s verbal expression increased gradually and then decreased as the sessions went on. Chun Chun showed passive and initiative verbal contents in the beginning then became more positive and resourceful. Besides, Chun Chun demonstrated less negative thoughts toward herself in the later sessions. 2.In terms of the nonverbal behaviors, Chun Chun expressed excite emotions in the beginning, the negative, ended by positive ones. Chun Chun was very wrathful and behaved like a beast at first, finally became more flexible as well as creative. As to the nature of the play activities, Chun Chun changed from the exploratory and medical activities to the aggressive ones, then to the nurturing ones in the middle period and finally to involve herself more in role-play and creative ones. 3.Repeat topics did not disappear until Chun Chun faced them gradually throughout the sessions, such as the transform and entrustion activities, It seemed that the play materials were more diverse and changeable, so as to inspire the creativity and spontaneity of Chun Chun. She became more actively interacted with the researcher, had more eye contact, rather than being submissive and passive. 4.According to her teacher, parents,doctor and classmate’s observations, Chun Chun made much progress in her peer relationship, participated more in class activities. Moreover, she beacame more vocal and active. Chun Chun’s mother also found that she was more independent. The implications and further recommendations of the research were addressed.
