The second one was to explore the effects of the traditional teaching materials for promoting the literacy ability and the learning of Chinese and then some suggestions are provided according to the results of this study. Utilizing the quasi-experimental method, two classes of the first and third grade students of one elementary school are presented in this thesis. The students were divided into two groups of experimental group and control group and were taught with the traditional enlightened teaching materials and the reading instruction of picturebooks. The assessments in the research process are「Chinese Graded Word Reading Scale」and the Chinese examinations at school. Then the researcher compared the differences between these two groups of students’scores on the 「Chinese Graded Word Reading Scale」 and the examinations at school with one-way ANCOVA and analyzed the traditional enlightened teaching materials for promoting the first grade and third grade students’ learning effects of literacy ability and verbal ability. Meanwhile, the researcher interviewed the teachers and analyzed the learning feedback sheets from the students to understand the suggestions and what they have learned toward the traditional enlightened teaching materials. The research results show: 一、The Chinese literacy ability of the first grade students who learned traditional enlightened teaching materials is superior than the students who learned the reading of picturebooks. 二、The Chinese literacy ability of the third grade students who learned traditional enlightened teaching materials is superior than the students who learned the reading of picturebooks. 三、The learning effects of Chinese of the first grade students who learned traditional enlightened teaching materials is superior than the students who learned the reading of picturebooks. 四、The learning effects of Chinese of the third grade students who learned traditional enlightened teaching materials is superior than the students who learned the reading of picturebooks.
