The purposes of this study are as follows: 1) Study the feasibility that fable instruction materials include the content of Zhuangzi fable. 2) Investigate the effect of promoting Zhuangzi fable instruction on reading comprehension ability for fifth graders in elementary school. 3) Investigate the opinion and after-thought of the fifth graders who participated in the fable class on Zhuangzi fable instruction. This study adopted a quasi-experimental design of before-and-after test on different groups for examining reading comprehension ability, assisted with the questions raised in the classroom setting, and thus searched for the ways of improvement. Research subjects were two classes of fifth graders in Taichung City XX Elementary School. Thirty-two students in Grade 5 Class 1 were in the control group which proceeded with general reading activity; thirty-one students Grade 5 Class 2 were in experimental group which proceeded with Zhuangzi fable instruction activity that emphasized Zhuangzi fable reading activity. It included an 880 minutes experimental teaching that involved reading activity of sixteen Zhuangzi fable stories for eleven weeks with two sessions every week. The research tools include: reading comprehension difficulty screening test, Zhuangzi fable instruction student feedback questionnaire, Zhuangzi fable reading learning list. Data was analyzed and verified by independent samples T-test; we also analyzed Zhuangzi fable instruction student feedback questionnaire and the content of Zhuangzi fable learning list. The major findings of this study are as follows: 1) Zhuangzi fable reading instruction has no significant effects on “reading comprehension difficulty screening test” for fifth graders in elementary school. 2) Zhuangzi fable reading instruction is helpful in stimulating students’ intellect and improving reading comprehension ability. 3) Zhuangzi fable learning list helps students to learn layers of thinking in reading comprehension and also contributes to the function of writing. 4) In Zhuangzi fable stories, the articles which are more interesting and with more comparison attract students’ interests in reading. 5) Zhuangzi fable instruction has positive effect on students’ interests in reading. According to the above research results, suggestions and discussions are provided as future references for teachers and researchers. 鄭峰明 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 222 zh-TW
